Tom Hanks and Wife Rita Wilson Test Positive for Coronavirus on the Gold Coast

We must protect them at all costs.

Coronavirus has come for many things: Peter Rabbit 2, No Time To Die, and even the sweet and innocent Baby Yoda. Earlier today it was also announced that the NBA season has been suspended after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19.

With the virus spreading to more and more countries, it was only a matter of time before it infiltrated the celebrity world as well.

Today, it did just that, with Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson confirming they've tested positive for coronavirus.

The Oscar-winning actor announced on Instagram that both he and his wife had caught the virus on the Gold Coast. Hanks was in Queensland to work on Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic.

"We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus and were found to be positive," he wrote in the caption.

At the moment, the pair is in hospital on the Gold Coast receiving treatment. However, they're not sure where they contracted the virus from.

Warner Bros. Pictures, which is distributing the Elvis biopic, released a statement this morning.

"We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in production on the Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus)," a spokesperson said.

"We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual."

Warner Bros. has halted production on the untitled biopic, in which Hanks plays Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker. At this stage, it's not clear as to whether he could have passed on the virus to other cast and crew members, including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rufus Sewell and Austin Butler.

There are 128 confirmed cases of coronavirus across Australia, and more than 9,000 people have been tested in New South Wales. Canberra also recorded its first case of the virus today.

Considering the number of cases is predicted to rise, it's important to ensure you're practicing good hygiene and limiting travel where possible.
