Tiny Western Australian Council Surprised After Their Video Clocked Up 14 Million Views Overnight

Shire of Moora’s chief executive got quite the surprise when a video posted to the town’s Facebook page became a viral sensation overnight.

Alan Leeson, Moora’s chief executive, literally thought the page had been hacked, according to WA Today. (How adorable.)

On a daily basis the Facebook provides information to its 2000 residents, but over the span of one night, the page climbed to around 58,000 followers. Talk about overnight sensation, right?

A video was uploaded by the shire in December showing how a road is surfaced. It was aptly captioned, “Have you ever seen how a road is bitumenised?”

The video was shot using a drone and features a truck, well, bitumenising a road. The title speaks for itself, really. As of Tuesday, it had been viewed a whopping 14 million times, and shared 361,00 times.

“We had a lot of views by Christmas, might have been about 5000 which we thought, ‘Geez that’s a lot, but around New Year it just took off,” Mr Leeson told WA today.

“We thought, ‘oh we’ve been hacked, but it’s all been checked out.”

The footage shows a 4.9 kilometre section of road being laid; the upgrade cost $443,000 and was funded through Roads to Recovery.

Since we're all apparently obsessed with how roads are made, here's another video. Just for good measure, you know,
