It's Official: Welcome to TikTok Book Club

Book lovers rejoice!

Are you anything like us and spend most of your TikTok time scrolling through #BookTok and buying dozens of books to sit in your TBR pile (if you know, you know) that you'll probably never get around to reading?

Then you're going to love this news. TikTok has launched an official Book Club.

It's just another way the cozy reading community can share #readingrecs, #readinginspo and reviews, bringing book lovers from around the world even closer.

It isn't a surprising announcement, given the success of and love for BookTok. The hashtag boasts more than 65 billion views (and counting) on the social media site, and has had a real-world impact on the sales of print books across the globe.

In a press release, TikTok's Head of Partnerships and Community, James Stafford, said it had been "amazing" to watch #BookTok grow, and they looked forward to continuing their impact on the literary world.

"From spotlighting little-known authors and genres to introducing the classics to a new generation, #BookTok has helped to reignite a passion for literature and we creating a new take on the much-loved #BookClub format, so our community can continue to connect, spark conversations and share the books they love most," he said.

How's this Book Club going to work?

Just like #BookTok, anyone will be able to join the TikTok Book Club, but it'll be a little more organised.

Each month, a new book will be announced and those that want to join in will be encouraged to read along and then share their thoughts.

TikTok will then also include a special #BookClub hub within the app where book-lovers and avid readers will easily be able to find out about that month's title, and start creating their own reviews.

Who are the 'BookTok Laureates'?

There will be a team of passionate readers and TikTokkers, known as 'BookTok Laureates', who will guide Book Club, diving into each novel and co-hosting a TikTok Live at the end of each month to discuss the book together.

And if you've spent much time scrolling #BookTok, you'll be really excited about this line-up. The five BookTok Laureates are:

So, what page-turner is first on the list?

None other than Jane Austen's 1817 romantic classic Persuasion.

It's a timely choice given the film adaptation starring Dakota Johnson just dropped on Netflix last week and has been causing quite a stir online.

So what are you waiting for? Happy reading, book worms!
