TikTok is Back in the USA After Being Banned for, Checks Notes, Less than 24 Hours

We officially can’t keep up

When the US Supreme Court announced they would uphold the TikTok ban put in place by former President Biden last year, thousands of American users proceeded to mourn the loss of their beloved TikTok before she was so cruelly taken away.

After a tearful, humble goodbye, the US was banned from TikTok a few hours before 19 January.

The ban lasted less than 24 hours 😐 and TikTok is now available for use in the US again.

American users got a message on the app a few hours before the ban was set to go into effect on 19 January.

Users had this message pop up on their TikTok screen mid-scroll.

After less than 24 hours, the app is now back and running in the US with a new message being shown on screen.

At his inauguration eve rally, President Donald Trump said “as of today, TikTok is back…we have no choice, we have to save it. A lot of jobs.”

The new/old President suggested he would be signing an executive order to pause the ban so TikTok’s parent company ByteDance can resell it to a US buyer. He would only be able to pause the ban for 90 days. If the 90-day period expires, both Trump’s executive order and TikTok could face more legal challenges.

TikTok posted a statement after the app went live in the US again thanking President Trump and noting they would “work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”

So, what’s going to happen next? No idea. We officially can’t keep up.
