They’re Rebooting “Jumanji"

By “they” we mean Sony Pictures, the beleaguered studio whose 2015 was ruined by a devastating email hack (and Chappie).

Sony, now looking to the future, revealed the release dates for 16 promising new features this morning, including two long-rumoured Bad Boys sequels, the Jennifer Lawrence/ Chris Pratt sci-fi romance Passengers, Edgar Wright’s impending Baby Driver and, seemingly out of nowhere, a reboot of Jumanji.

While rumblings of a Jumanji reboot began in 2012, there hadn’t been much public talk about it since the untimely death of the original’s star, Robin Williams.

But it looks like Sony are keen to turn the beloved 1995 flick, all about a board game with massive, real-world consequences, into a franchise.

So, look forward to that Jumanji do-over on Christmas Day of 2016 (one week after the release of Passengers).

We won’t see Baby Driver and Bad Boys 3 until 2017. Bad Boys 4, should that ever become a thing, will arrive in 2019.
