There Will Be An "Anti-Beyoncé" Protest (And An "Anti-Anti-Beyoncé" Protest) In New York Next Week

Protesters are planning on, well, protesting Beyoncé’s recent Super Bowl performance.

But fear not. An Anti-Anti Beyoncé protest is also being arranged.

In case you missed it – and how dare you – Beyoncé stormed Super Bowl 50 with a pointed rendition of her new, politically-charged single “Formation” on Sunday.

The video for the song explicitly dissects race relations in America and the Black Lives Matter movement (while also, less explosively, referencing affordable eatery Red Lobster).

During the Super Bowl's halftime show, Beyoncé and her dancers emerged – in, ahem, formation – dressed in all-black attire; considered a reference to the Black Panther movement.

Everyone agreed it was incredible, with many appreciating Bey’s pointed, provocative stance (for the biggest audience in the world).

Well, almost everyone.

An unnamed user of Eventbrite has arranged an “Anti-Beyoncé Protest Rally” on February 16, outside of the NFL headquarters building in New York.

Let them try to explain their reasoning via rhetorical questions:

“Are you offended as an American that Beyoncé pulled her race-baiting stunt at the Superbowl? Do you agree that it was a slap in the face to law enforcement? Do you agree that the Black Panthers was/is a hate group which should not be glorified? Come and let's stand together. Let's tell the NFL we don't want hate speech & racism at the Superbowl ever again!”

Whoever turns up to NFL HQ on the 16th to protest Yoncé will have some company; specifically, the attendees of the “Anti-Anti-Beyoncé Protest Rally.”

Hosted by “Black Girl Rising”, the “counter protest” is intended to tackle the “racist, ahistorical attack on the Black Panther Party and Beyoncé, plus an excuse to celebrate a very awesome song and #BlackGirlMagic moment.”

“Sisters, dress in your ‘Formation’ video/Super Bowl performance-inspired gear and make this a moment a joyous one,” the event page continues.

“Allies and friends, show up and show your support!”

We have a feeling one of these groups will grossly outnumber the other, and it’ll be the one blaring “Formation” triumphantly.
