The Wiggles Have Added Four New Members to Be More Culturally and Gender Diverse

Toot toot, chugga chugga, big red van.

It's time to trade in the big red car and get a mini van ‘cos The Wiggles have just doubled in size, with four new faces joining the crew in a move to better represent cultural and gender diversity in Australia.

Joining the current lineup of Blue Wiggle Anthony, Yellow Wiggle Emma, Purple Wiggle Lachy, and Red Wiggle Simon will be Blue Wiggle Evie, Yellow Wiggle Kelly, Purple Wiggle John and Red Wiggle Tsehay.

The improved team will be starring in a new series called Fruit Salad TV. The show will debut exclusively on The Wiggles’ YouTube channel and focus on representing all Aussies, no matter their age, gender or race.

Love that!

Speaking about the change, Blue Wiggle Anthony Field said this was a move that reflects the evolving culture of today.

“The Wiggles were created during a time when early childhood educational concepts were the focus,” Field said.

“As society has evolved, we have embraced the need for diversity and inclusiveness and want children all over the world to see themselves reflected on the screen.

“It’s so important that The Wiggles continue to evolve along with our society. This is the first step towards shaping The Wiggles for the next 30 years, taking us in a direction that truly represents and serves our community more inclusively.”

First up in the new additions is Tsehay. Her name is Ethiopian and means ‘the sun’ and she is an award-winning dancer who is a boss at the Samba, Urban Latin and Salsa.

Joining Tsehay is Taribelang woman Evie Ferris. From central Queensland, Evie is a professional ballet dancer and a lover of yoga and reading.

The male addition to the team is Australian/Filipino John Pearce. Some of you might recognise him as a member of the Aussie pop group Justice Crew. Since then, John has worked as a personal trainer, but will now trade in his weights to entertain the kiddos.

Fruit Salad TV will premiere on September 4 on YouTube.
