The Rock's Character in "Moana" Is an Actual Spitting Image of His Grandpa

Thank you, Dwayne, for this gem.

In a day full of dark headlines, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's little Easter Egg has shined through.

The actor explained to Twitter that his character, Maui, in Disney's Moana was inspired by his grandfather and professional wrestler, High Chief Peter Maivia of Samoa.

The Rock's grandpaps was also a wrestler, as was his dad Rocky Johnson, so it's not really surprising that they're all tanks.

But most importantly, the resemblance to Maui is uncanny. People were suitably impressed.

Presumably they had to tone down his powers a bit for the movie.

Here's The Rock's grandpa being a total boss and fighting with James Bond (and basically winning).

Dwayne's family genes run strong. Really strong.
