The Man Who Hacked J-Law's iCloud Has Been Sentenced to Jail

He faces eight months in prison.
A man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for his involvement in the hacking of 240 iCloud accounts, including that of Jennifer Lawrence.
The man, George Garofano, hacked the iCloud accounts in 2014 and leaked their private information and photos to the world. Among those accounts was Jennifer Lawrence's (or J-Law); it also happened to contain some nude images of herself.
Lawrence was horrified when her private photos were leaked online and has pushed for tougher laws to prevent similar crimes from happening in the future.
"It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime," she told Vanity Fair at the time. "It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change.
"Just the fact that somebody can be sexually exploited and violated, and the first thought that crosses somebody's mind is to make a profit from it.
"It's so beyond me. I just can't imagine being that detached from humanity. I can't imagine being that thoughtless and careless and so empty inside."
Garofano pleaded guilty back in April but wasn't sentenced until this week. Prosecutors demanded a longer sentence of 10 to 16 months due to his numerous hackings over an 18-month period, but he was ultimately granted some leniency.
His defense lawyer argued that he had "matured, accepting responsibility for his actions."
"There is nothing to suggest that he would ever engage in this or any other criminal conduct in the future," his defense lawyer continued.
Garofano will be subject to a further three years of supervised release after he has served his time.
