New Study Reveals The Best 10 Professions (And The 10 Worst)

Let's just say, it's not a great time to work for a newspaper.

A report by US website CareerCast has ranked 200 professions from best to worst, based on income, work environment, stress and hiring outlook in 2015.

Taking the top spot: Actuary. Those clever men and women who calculate insurance risks and premiums have become a hot commodity in America following the implementation of Obamacare.

The remainder of the top ten were as follows: 2) Audiologist, 3) Mathematician, 4) Statistician, 5) Biomedical Engineer, 6) Data Scientist, 7) Dental Hygienist, 8) Software Engineer, 9) Occupational Therapist and 10) Computer Systems Analyst.

Though the list is U.S. specific, its weighting towards scientific and mathematical professions indicates a move towards a more global industry. Demand for Mathematicians, Statisticians, Data Scientists, Software Engineers and Computer Systems Analyst – along with the income that comes with such demand – would likely be mirrored by most nations, including Australia.

The worst job, according to CareerCast’s report, was that of Newspaper Reporter; a position slowly fading as newspapers shutter around the globe.

Lumberjack, Enlisted Military Personnel, Cook, Broadcaster, Photojournalist, Corrections Officer, Taxi Driver, Firefighter and Mail Carrier round out the bottom ten.
