Teen Clockmaker Ahmed Mohamed Wants An Apology From Texas (Oh, And $15 Million)

Texas better have his money.
Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old clockmaker who was apprehended by police when his school thought he’d brought in a bomb, has lawyered up.
According to Time (which seemed like the most appropriate source for this story), an attorney representing Ahmed and his family is seeking $US15 million in damages from Texas officials.
The Dallas Morning News got ahold of letters sent out to City Hall and the Irving Independent School District in which they ask for $US15 million – and an apology – in lieu of a civil rights suit.
The letters claim Ahmed was illegally questioned by police without his parents present and that he was threatened by his principal with expulsion if he didn’t admit his homemade clock was actually a "hoax bomb".
It is also being alleged that city officials “devised a plan to ‘trash Ahmed’ to the media” once the story went viral (gathering the attention and even support of President Obama).
The Mohamed family moved to Qatar last month, where Ahmed was offered a scholarship through to college. However, the family is now adding that their decision to leave the country – considering Ahmed was offered numerous scholarships within America – is a result of threats made against them by “fringe websites”.
“Ahmed fears for his physical safety after receiving many threatening emails… When they feel safe again, all of them want more than anything to come home, to Irving, Texas,” the letter reads.
