Makers Of The Most Racist Ad Ever Are Sorry (Not Sorry) You Got So Offended

You may or may not be surprised to learn that the company behind the “most racist ad ever” (as the internet deemed it) is not super sensitive when it comes to the feelings of other people.
Chinese laundry detergent brand Qiaobi has told The Global Times, basically, the only thing wrong with the ad is how it has been perceived outside of China. That should calm the outraged masses.
"We meant nothing but to promote the product, and we had never thought about the issue of racism," said Qiaobi’s spokesperson.
"The foreign media might be too sensitive about the ad."
Nothing quells a controversy like a non-apology!
In the clip, a young Chinese woman puts a black suitor in the washing machine so he can be “cleaned” into a Chinese man. Feel free to refresh your memory - and rage - below:
The spokesperson added that the version airing in China is only five seconds long, and “does not have the black character”.
“We have no idea why the full version went viral online,” he added.
Buuuuuuuut, it did.
The spokesperson didn’t comment on the fact that the ad is seemingly a reversed rip-off of another questionable Italian detergent ad from the early 2000s.
The Global Times also spoke to Beijing-based ad designer Huang Jing, to see how the clip would be perceived locally.
"I think Chinese people will just take the ads as a joke and still buy the products, as most of us don't have a clear understanding of racism, but the product may be boycotted in Western countries though,” he said.
