Be Alert: Sydney Couple Held At Gunpoint While Playing Pokémon Go

“It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.” Not just a saying anymore!
A couple has been held at gunpoint while playing Pokémon Go in Sydney’s south-west, ABC News reports.
The man and woman, both 29, were playing the addictive smartphone game at a skatepark in Tahmoor on Wednesday night.
During their gameplay, they were threatened by two men with a rifle. The men, who were covering their faces during the stick-up, eventually drove away without having robbed the couple.
NSW Police don’t believe the offenders targeted the two players through the app.
They don’t even really believe the game had anything to do with their encounter, except for the fact it brought them to an area they might not have otherwise trafficked.
"They were in a very dark car park ... it was very cold that night so there wasn't anyone else out, they just put themselves in an area where there wasn't any other people around,” Detective Inspector Jane Doherty said.
Still, the police reminded users to heed the opening loading screen and remain aware of your surroundings while playing Pokémon Go.
"We've had reports of people using similar games whilst driving and obviously you're not paying attention to the road if you're paying attention to an app.
"Think about what you're doing - if you wouldn't do it outside of playing a game then why do it now?"
Basically: It’s good that you’re getting some exercise, but is it really worth heading to poorly lit and unpopulated areas in the middle of the night just to find another Pidgey?
Oh, and definitely don’t Pokédrive, even if you see a Pikachu!
