Student Edge’s Editor Simon Miraudo Is Leaving and We’re Not Crying, You’re Crying

He’s moving on and up in the world.

We have been doing our absolute best to hold it together today, because Student Edge’s Head of Communications & Membership and Editor, Simon Miraudo, is moving onto another new and exciting opportunity.

Cue the tears.

Saying goodbye to an awesome colleague is pretty damn difficult, and it’s even more challenging to put your gratitude for all their hard work into words. But considering the immeasurable impact Simon has had on Student Edge throughout his time here, we simply had to try.

So without further ado, let’s reflect on some of Simon’s many achievements here at SE (we have to process our emotions somehow, okay?).

Simon’s journey with Student Edge began in 2015 when he became our Editor and the sole Writer for the Student Edge website. At the time, our content was still covered under the ‘eMag’, but thanks to Simon, content now sits across four major sections of the website: News, Life, Study and Jobs. Basically, he made it a whole lot easier for you guys to find the resources you need.

We don’t even want to attempt to count the number of articles Simon has produced over the years, so let’s just say there’s a lot. You’ve probably read his epic movie reviews (he's written 363 of those for SE), ‘How to Watch’ articles, or learnt some tips and tricks about playing NBA 2K21 from him. In fact, his commitment to writing about everything you guys want to know and need to know helped us triple the amount of unique visitors on our website.

Throughout Simon’s time as Editor, helping students has always been of paramount importance to him. Earlier this year, he established Student Edge’s Film School Panel, giving up-and-coming critics in Western Australia a voice.

On top of that, he also wore the most legendary Wayne’s World wig to our 2018 staff Christmas party.

Let’s face it: we could go on about Simon’s accomplishments forever. However, what we’re most thankful for is his supportive presence around the office.

Here’s what the SE team had to say about Simon...

Laurette, Head of Communications: Being part of Si’s team over the last couple of years has been an amazing ride, with plenty of laughs, brainstorms, bants, problem-solving and everything in-between. I can safely say that Si has been the best manager that I have ever had!

Bianca, Head of Membership: Simon has had a huge positive impact on Student Edge. He inspired us all to do the best for our members and is truly passionate about helping young people. Simon’s management style allows his team to thrive to their best abilities… his great one-liners will be missed!

Jemma, Senior Designer & Digital Producer: Working with Simon has been great! He’s definitely the most supportive and encouraging boss I’ve ever had. He keeps calm even in the most stressful situations and that flows on to everyone around him. I’ll miss his sense of humour, his intelligence (grammar checks anyone?) and having him to bounce my ideas off. Plus all the movie recs and pop culture references!

Caitlin, Editor & Content Producer: I feel exceptionally lucky to have stepped into my first full-time job under Si’s leadership. He has helped me grow in both a professional and personal capacity, and I’ll miss his presence around the office. Honestly, I don’t know how to put how appreciative I am into words (and I’m a writer). Thanks for everything, Si.

Intan, Digital Producer & Designer: Working with Simon has been fun and inspiring. I appreciated the little nudges and the encouragement he continually gave me to speak up and bring my ideas to the table. I love how understanding he is to each individual’s needs. Overall, 10/10 manager.

Marie, Writer & Content Producer: I haven’t known Si very long, but I can say without a doubt that he has been the best manager I have ever had. I have really appreciated Si’s respectful, easy-going and kind leadership style, and of course all the banter. I am very sad to see him go but I wish him all the best.

Okay, we’re officially sobbing now.

Simon, we wish you all the best for this next chapter. You’ll always be a part of the SE fam.
