Five Tips to Help you Beat Procrastination When Studying

How to stop saying “I’ll do it later” 🤐

Whether you’re binge watching TikToks or scrolling through Instagram when you should be studying for your next assessment, procrastination steals our time from things we probably should be doing

Procrastination can cut our three hour study sessions in half and our essays end up being rushed because we’ve left everything to the last minute.

Procrastination is an epidemic amongst fellow students and we’ve all fallen into its trap at least once.

So if this is you, forget the days of aimlessly scrolling and hoping for motivation, instead say hello to these tips and tricks to get you feeling productive again.

Break it down.

This might sound simple, but breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable tasks can make it less overwhelming and daunting. Knock out mini tasks at a time and before you know it, studying for an exam, completing that assignment or putting together a presentation, will be done in no time.

Get a study buddy.

Having someone to hold you accountable can be a game changer. Study buddy’s can be great for providing motivation and encouragement. When you know someone else is expecting to work with you, you are more likely to follow through on your study plans. Plus, you can brainstorm solutions together, discuss different approaches, and find answers more efficiently than you might on your own.

Make sure you pick someone who will do their job as a study buddy and keep you accountable if you do fall into a procrastination trap!

Limit your distractions.

Unfortunately, you will have to stop scrolling social media if you want a productive study session. Turn your phone on do-not-disturb to help you concentrate and prevent interruptions. You can even use apps and website blockers if you think you can’t resist.

Study in a space that has minimal distractions and free from clutter. This could be a quiet, clean room in your house or even the library.

Implement the five-minute rule.

Often, the hardest part is starting. Commit to working on your task for just five minutes and time yourself. Once you begin your task, you might find it becomes easier to continue working beyond the initial five minutes.

Create a reward system for yourself.

Giving ourselves a reward to work towards often motivates us. For example, your reward could be some frozen yoghurt from yo-chi or even watching an episode of your fave TV show. This will make it more enjoyable working towards your goals.

We hope these tips help you ditch the distractions and start being productive 🧑‍💻
