If this is you, DW we’ve got some advice 👍

Realising that you aren’t liking your degree can feel like the academic equivalent of a mid-life crisis. But it’s more common than you think, and it’s not the end of the world. It is totally okay to feel uncertain about the path you chose.

If this is you here are some tips to help you navigate this situation.

It’s okay to not love your degree.

Many people go into university with a certain vision but may come to find it isn’t what they thought. Maybe you thought you’d love studying psychology, but now you’re finding yourself daydreaming during the days at university.

Your interests and passions can change, and you don’t have to stick to the first degree or course you choose. Take some time to discover what you enjoy learning about.

Take it easy on yourself.

Feeling unsure and stuck in your degree can take a toll on your mental health. Make sure you are taking care of yourself by doing things that will make you feel good and calm, like going on a walk outside, talking to family and friends and careers counselors. Your well-being is the most important thing after all.

Explore your options.

There are a lot of other options out there that you can choose from. This may be switching majors or minors, taking on internships or part time jobs, or maybe not going to uni anymore.

Keep an open mind and stay positive. Sometimes you need some twists and turns in your journey to find the most rewarding possibilities. Figure out what is best for you and what will align with your goals and passions.

Embrace the journey.

Your degree doesn’t define you. Many people don’t follow a straight path to their careers. Your journey may have some bumps and detours along the way, and that it totally ok. Use this time to find what you are truly interested in.

Remember, it’s a common experience, and there are plenty of ways to navigate through it. Take your time, seek advice, and keep an open mind.

However, you feel and whatever you choose to do, you’ve got this! 🌟
