Stephenie Meyer Has Rewritten "Twilight" Except Now Bella Is A Dude And Edward Is A Girl

Remember Twilight? Of course you do. For the longest time, it was everywhere, and to many, it was everything.

But all fads must fade.

The Young Adult sensation of the mid-aughts has become little more than a fond memory for readers, with many graduating to the more mature Hunger Games books (and their far, far better film adaptations), or growing up real fast with the 50 Shades of Grey saga. (Why wait for Edward and Bella’s endless courtship to culminate over a quadrilogy when Christian and Anastasia waste almost no time in book one?)

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer wants to bring her epic tomes back to life – or at least, boost sales - by releasing Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, which is basically the same book but with the genders of the lead characters swapped.

It’s now about a guy named Beau (not Bella) who falls for lady vampire Edythe (not Edward), despite the romantic intentions of the werewolf-next-door, Julie (not Jacob).

Speaking to Good Morning America, Meyer said she hopes the book will recontextualise the character of Bella, who many had criticised of being written as a passive plaything for two guys who constantly claimed to know what was best for her.

"I wonder if it will change how people look at Bella a little bit, to see her as him," she said.
