"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Merch Could Top $5 Billion In Sales (In One Year)

Bold prediction alert: that new Star Wars movie is going to make Disney a lot of money.
A market analyst is predicting $5 billion worth of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise will be sold in the year following the film’s release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Macquarie Securities analyst Tim Nollen made the call in his new report “Defending Disney: Catalysts in Store”, in which he notes the circumstances he believes will cause Disney’s stock to “outperform” after a notable downturn.
Nollen says the launch of The Force Awakens’ toys and accompanying merch on September 4 - nicknamed "Force Friday" - could “easily net Disney about $500 million in licensing and retail revenue,” the result of a potential $5 billion in sales.
Though the very number - $5 billion! – seems impossible, note that Disney saw merch sales of $3 billion tied to Cars 2 in 2011. The original Cars produced $10 billion in merchandise sales over five years. And people don’t even really like those movies!
The entire Star Wars franchise has produced $20 billion in merch sales since 1977.
Don't pretend you don't want a BB-8 for yourself.
