Sorry, But You’ve Probably Eaten a Whole Bunch of Insects with Your Coffee and Chocolate

Thought your food was free from insects and other nasty creepy-crawlies? Definitely think again.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) knows the truth and has the receipts on the amount of bugs you're eating, but who’s got the time to read a report?

Luckily for us, Terro, an insect control company has put together a frightening (yet simple) infographic to explain just how many bugs are consumed and which food sources are most likely to have them.

As has been neatly outlined above, coffee beans by far outweigh the other foods for edible insect consumption. Next up is wheat flour, which is in a whole bunch of the foods we love such as bread, pasta, rice and cereal. So, only like 80 per cent of our diets.

Just to clarify, you're not actually eating this many bugs individually. Also, the bugs are not whole when you devour them; rather it might just be their wing or antenna or toe that's made it's way into your mouth.

I hope those clarifications help you sleep tonight.
