Some Uni Students Are Offering Up to $10k to Buy a Spot in Limited Classes

Some students at a university in Sydney have resorted to buying unit places from other students.

Postgraduate students at University of New South Wales (UNSW) resorted to buying their spot in key classes due to a limited amount of spaces available for the summer session, which runs from December to January.

Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) is reporting that postgrad students studying law at UNSW were getting so desperate to secure their spot in classes, they would pay up to $10,000 to buy it off someone who was lucky enough to get one.

Classes were available for enrolling on October 3 at 9.00am, but by 9.01am, spots for those summer classes had allegedly filled up and administrative staff were unable to help students who were desperate for those class times.

One of the students wrote in a since-deleted post in a Facebook group: "Hi, everyone. I would like to purchase a summer school placement of Law and Social Theory (JURD 7222) for AUD 10,000. Please contact me if you are willing to sell or you know someone would do so."

A spokesperson from the UNSW Faculty of Law told SMH that they were looking into holding the classes in larger classes.

"The majority of students are not dependent upon the summer term as they will have responded to directions to map out their progression with reference to study plans regularly sent to them, most recently this September," the spokesperson said.

Let's just hope something does get resolved soon, seeing as these degrees already cost several thousands and having space available in classes is just, like, the basics of studying a degree.
