Some NSW Students Just Found Out They Were Taught the Wrong HSC Course All Year

Oh dear.

A handful of NSW students have discovered they were being taught the wrong maths course all year, mere months before sitting their HSC exam.

NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes told 2GB Radio he was “angry on [the students] behalf” after learning their school suggested they could always retake the exam in 2018 if they “don’t do well” this time around.

“That’s clearly a laughable solution,” he added.

“If this was my child I would be furious.”

According to the SMH, two Year 12 students and five Year 11 students from Coonamble High School have been affected. They were reportedly taught the mathematics general 1 syllabus instead of the mathematics general 2 course.

The NSW Department of Education has gone ahead and kicked-off a “thorough investigation” of the incident.

With exams beginning October 16, the students have been offered “comprehensive support” via a “maths inspector” from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to ensure they still sit the mathematics general 2 exam. NESA has also approved “a special consideration for the students”, meaning they won’t have to sit any extra assessments that would otherwise be used to calculate the other 50 per cent of their HSC marks.

If you read this article and started sweating/stress-eating/cry-screaming just at the thought of what these students are going through, that is totally understandable.
