So the Nokia 3310 Is Back, But It Won’t Work in Australia

The iconic, unbreakable, Nokia 3310 has been resurrected. Too bad they won’t work in Australia.
HMD Global unveiled the upgraded 3310 on Sunday, and the differences are pretty apparent straight away. It’s a brightly coloured version of the classic talk and text phone; it’s slimmer, and has a larger screen, SMH reports.
Other upgrades include a colour screen, a camera, a microSD card slot, the ability to play MP3 files and a new version of the classic game Snake. It does, however, stick to the old 2G GSM network standard for calling and texting.
It’s priced at just $AU67, not that the price really matters because the popular device won’t actually work in Australia.

Telstra has already turned 2G services off, and other telcos are expected to follow suit. Which effectively means, 2G as a network is being phased out entirely.
Optus and Vodaphone are the only two networks that still use 2G, but it will be shut off in April and September respectively.
Tech expert Trevor Long said it’s great Nokia—as a brand—is back in full force. However, the inability of the 3310 to work in Australia is a crushing blow.
“They’ve launched a couple of Android phones that we will probably get in Australia, but the little candy bar phone that we’re used to and love won’t work in Australia,” he told the TODAY show.
Anyone else feel left out?
