Skittles Would Like The Trumps To Stop Using Them In Anti-Refugee Memes, Please

We’re not sure if the Trumps love Skittles or hate Skittles, but either way, they’ve pulled them into an unexpected social media fracas.

Donald Trump Jr., son of the Republican Presidential contender, today pushed out a meme comparing the plight of the Syrian refugee to that of a skittle.

Needless to say, with the innocent social media manager at Skittles HQ wisely staying silent, the denizens of the web jumped at the opportunity to share their thoughts on the metaphor (and the general absurdity of the U.S. election to date).

More significantly, they reminded the Trumps that Skittles are not people.

Eventually, Wrigley Americas’ VP of Corporate Affairs, Denise Young, released a statement on the Trumps' usage of their product as a point of comparison to Syrian refugees (which is certainly not how Denise thought her day was going to end).

“Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy,” she wrote.
