Julian Assange Says WikiLeaks Will Publish About One Million Docs Before US Election

Julian Assange has said WikiLeaks will publish about one million documents in the lead-up to the US election.

Assange made the announcement yesterday as part of WikiLeaks' 10th anniversary, in which he promised to provide the traditional "October surprise" that all American election-followers anticipate with both delight and dread.

Many Republican supporters had expected Assange to provide material that would damage the Democrats' contender Hillary Clinton during his video link from the Ecuadoran embassy in London, only to be disappointed that he was merely teasing the impending publication of leaked documents.

Assange insists the coming documents won't simply target Clinton, ABC reports.

"There has been a misquoting of me and WikiLeaks publications ... [suggesting] we intend to harm Hillary Clinton or I intend to harm Hillary Clinton or that I don't like Hillary Clinton. All those are false," he said.

Nonetheless, he's saying the upcoming material is "significant" and will likely make both Clinton and her Republican rival Donald Trump turn red (well, in the case of the latter, redder).

Earlier this year, WikiLeaks revealed emails from the Democratic National Committee that resulted in the resignation of its chair, Debbie Waserman Schultz.

The website will provide data dumps on a weekly basis between now and the election on November 8, covering subjects like Google, arms trading and mass surveillance.
