The Royal Baby Was Named After Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana (But Mainly Prince Charles)

Charlotte Elizabeth Diana’s the name, being a princess is her game.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – aka, Kate and Wills – have revealed the name of their newborn second child, defying odds-makers who had nothing better to do tipped ‘Alice’ as the name to beat.

Paying tribute to not only grandparents Prince Charles and the late Lady Di but also great-grandmother Queen Lizzy, the royal baby was named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Elizabeth was considered by punters to be the second most likely choice for the baby name.

Don't think the royals strayed too far from expectations by going with Charlotte for their first daughter, however.

There was a Queen Charlotte back in the 18th century and she too gave birth to a Princess Charlotte.

Also, Charlotte is the middle name of Kate's sister, Pippa.

For what it's worth, our personal tip, Khaleesi, was listed as having a 500/1 shot of being selected.

The future King George, Charlotte's brother, had no comments on the christening, as he is still a baby.
