R.I.P. Anton Yelchin; Fans And Famous Friends Remember The 27-Year-Old "Star Trek" Actor

Actor Anton Yelchin has been found dead at his San Fernando Valley home, mere weeks before the release of his new film Star Trek Beyond. He was 27 years old.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department revealed the unusual and highly tragic details of his death in a statement (courtesy of Deadline).
“On Sunday, June 19 at 1:10 in the morning, a fatal traffic collision occurred,” it began.
“It was the result of the victim’s own car rolling backwards down his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence.
“The victim was on his way to meet his friends for rehearsal. And when he didn’t show up, his friends went to his house, where they found him deceased by his car. It appeared he had momentarily exited his car leaving it in the driveway.”
Paramount, the studio behind Star Trek Beyond, mourned their young star in a statement:
“All of us at Paramount join the world in morning the untimely passing of Anton Yelchin. As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family.”
Yelchin, who was born in Russia to famed figure skaters, emigrated to America with his family as a six-month-old, and scored his first acting gig at the age of nine.
He first came to prominence with the thriller Alpha Dog, before scoring the role of Chekov in the newly-rebooted Star Trek series. He also played Kyle Reese in Terminator: Salvation, which he followed up with the indie movies The Beaver, Like Crazy, Only Lovers Left Alive and, most recently, Green Room.
Yelchin voiced Clumsy Smurf in this decade’s series of Smurfs movies too.
Celebrities, collaborators, friends and fans flooded Twitter to offer their condolences and remember Yelchin, considered one of the most promising young actors of his generation.

Yelchin now joins the macabre "27 Club", a group of talents who coincidentally passed away too soon, aged 27. It includes Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain.
Star Trek Beyond is still expected to arrive in Australian cinemas July 21.
RIP.
