Rich Dude's Plan to Rope Off Part of Bondi for Other Rich Folk Extremely Unpopular

Ah, I think the f*** not.
Just as we’re about to hit summer, a bunch of people with money in their pockets want to turn a section of the sand on Bondi Beach into an exclusive beach club.
Members of the Amalfi Beach Club submitted a proposal to Waverly Council to block off a section of the beach that would require payment to enter. Here they plan to serve food and alcohol right on the sand.
The full proposal is covered in an article by The Daily Telegraph but even that is off limits unless you want to pay for it.
Their reasoning? Because they can’t "sojourn to Europe" this year. (I mean, who even uses the word 'sojourn'?)
In the proposal, the members have stated that the spot would specifically be targeted to people with a "high net worth" and a taste for luxury.

If you’re thinking, 'oh it can’t be that bad', think again! The entry fee is a whopping $80 for two hours in just one of the cabanas, and if you want to eat or drink, you’ll have to pay even more. This madness even makes theme parks look cheap.
Essentially, the Amalfi Beach Club want to see frequent visits from men who are likely to be doctors, bankers or business entrepreneurs and women who have roles in fashion, beauty and modelling (woah, calm down on the gender role stereotypes there buddy).
The sexism is really just the rage-inducing icing on the cake in this vomitous plan to fence off part of Bondi Beach for the 'high status'. I wonder if it was dreamt up by those 'vodkapreneurs' who had that terrible sushi-pizza joint https://t.co/MiTnMfs3dA pic.twitter.com/nIh4WOfjmA

The Waverly Council thankfully declined the fancy pants beach request because beaches, parks and public spaces are supposed to be for everyone, not just rich people. But the Amalfi Beach Club has since put in a new request with slightly different dates that are still under review by the council.
In a Facebook post, the club claimed that the exclusive section would "help create jobs, support the local economy and diversify the use of the beach."

It would be an understatement to say that beachgoers online were not fans.
We really must resist this ongoing private enclosure of communal space. Surely one of the key lessons from this pandemic is how important public/communal space is for all of our wellbeing? We should be increasing the commons, not fencing them off.https://t.co/3C3mRA7eAj

While most people agreed that this proposal was ludicrous some people have backed the suggestion, including TV vet Dr Chris Brown.
"I think it’s going to go down very well," he told Fitzy and Wippa on Nova 96.9.
"It’s actually modelled off the one in the Amalfi Coast, the Bondi club, the sister club, just a bunch of Instagram models laying around.
"This is really an initiative to help local businesses, the local restaurants will host the club."
Yeah mate, you think that ‘cos you’re rich.
Because of the backlash, the club has responded to dispel some of the claims going around about their plans, and if we’re being honest, it’s bloody hilarious.
"Our beach club will not be harvesting organs of homeless people to serve as burgers to the rich," they said.
"We are not an attempt by the People's Republic of China to take over Crown Land. Women will be allowed entry.
"Your minds will not be controlled by alien lizard people while enjoying premium service and yummy food at Australia's favourite beach."
EVERYONE IS WELCOME 😃 We would like to dispel some misinformation. Our beach club will not be harvesting organs of...

While I'm sure everyone is actually welcome, there's no way you'll find me spending $80 to head to the beach, nah thanks.
