Daniel Ricciardo Will Leave McLaren After The F1 Season

Things are revving up in the world of F1.

In some wheely sad news, Australia’s favourite speedster will be leaving McLaren at the end of this year.

Daniel Ricciardo confirmed through a statement that at the close of this year’s F1 Season he and McLaren will part ways.

"It's been a privilege to be a part of the McLaren Racing family for the last two seasons but following several months of discussions with (team bosses) Zak (Brown) & Andreas (Seidl) we have decided to terminate my contract with the team early and agree to mutually part ways at the end of this season," Daniel said.

Daniel had previously signed a three-year deal with McLaren, but that will come to an end early this year.

Since joining McLaren in early 2021, Ricciardo hasn’t had the same level of success he previously enjoyed.

He’s only won one race with McLaren at last year’s Italian Grand Prix.

That was McLaren’s first win since 2012.

This year’s been a bit more difficult for the Perth-born racer, only winning points four times.

His best performance this year came in the Australia when he placed sixth.

Meanwhile, his teammate at McLaren Lando Norris has been far more successful, currently sitting at seventh on the F1 standings, and has only missed the top ten three times this year.

"From a results point of view, to consistently get the results and that form that I was after, it wasn't always there, and it made some weekends tough. I felt those."

It’s unclear right now what the road ahead looks like for Daniel Ricciardo.

But what is clear is that he’s not ready to wave the checkered flag on his career just yet.

"The sport, I still love it. I still have that fire in me, that belief in my belly that I can do this at the highest level. All that stuff is still there," he said.

With potential seats at a number of different teams, we know that we’re still not tyre-d of watching this Australian race.
