“Resident Evil Village” Is Coming in May and It'll Be Available on Old-Gen Consoles

You can also play a free demo on PS5 from today.

The developers of Resident Evil, Capcom, have announced the release date and all the deets of their new game Resident Evil Village in a livestream.

This seventh chapter is set to release on all old-gen and next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles on 7 May 2021, despite the fact that it was originally only planned for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Players who purchase the game for the PS4 and Xbox One will also get access to a free upgrade to next-gen consoles.

You can catch up on everything that was announced in the livestream here.

Capcom kicked off the announcement with the release of the game's trailer, introducing some of the new locations and faces we might expect to see in the gameplay.

Since the trailer's release, many fans have pointed out that Capcom have a habit of making villain characters, uh, ridiculously attractive. Basically, they're making players want to run after villains rather than run away from them.

The reaction is pretty funny, ngl.

If you can’t possibly wait until May, you’re in luck ‘cos Capcom also announced a free (yes, you read that correctly) Resident Evil Village demo, exclusive to the PS5.

Unlike the paid game that will be released later this year, the demo doesn’t have you play as the usual Ethan Winters. Instead, you will play as a character known as ‘maiden’.

The demo itself is meant to give players an insight into the game's landscape and a sneak peak into how it is going to look on the next-gen consoles, so there won’t actually be any combat.

It also takes place in a completely different timeline compared to the main story, so hopefully the main game contains references to the demo, so we’re not left without answers.

Not only are Capcom giving us a date, diverse play options and a free demo, but they’re also releasing a deluxe version of the game that includes multiple bonus in-game items and a collector’s edition pack.

The pack is set to include:

  • The game
  • A custom designed box
  • Artbook
  • Chris Redfield figure
  • Steelbook
  • Trauma Pack product code
  • Poster

While the digital deluxe edition will give players:

  • Found footage RE7 filter
  • Albert01 Chris gun
  • The tragedy of Ethan Winters
  • Max difficulty
  • Save device
  • Mr Everywhere
  • Safe room music

No official price points have been released yet but it is likely that the collector's edition will cost somewhere between $300 and $400.

Capcom are also getting ready to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil and have unveiled their plans for a new online multiplayer game, Resident Evil Re:Verse. This will re-introduce some fan favourite characters and familiar locations in the Resident Evil universe.

As for now, there aren’t many details about the multiplayer game, but watch this space.
