Reflecting on the Eight Best Moments From “The Good Place”

Time to say goodbye.
Accepting that one of your favourite shows is coming to an end never gets any easier.
Even though we’ve known for a while that The Good Place would be wrapping up with Season 4, that knowledge hasn’t stopped us from crying ourselves to sleep every time we think about never listening to one of Chidi’s ethics lessons again.

With the one-hour series finale landing on Aussie Netflix tonight, what better way to celebrate the series than to reflect on what made it so special?
So, in no particular order, here are our eight favourite moments from The Good Place.
*Spoilers for all four seasons of The Good Place ahead.*
"Chapter 31": Chidi uses Peeps to make chili.
Somehow, Chidi (William Jackson Harper) having a full-scale nervous breakdown in Australia and proceeding to make Peeps chili is a truly one of the most glorious sights we've ever witnessed.
Of course, Peeps aren't actually available down under. But as the show's creator Michael Schur told us, the marshmallows are available on our part of earth in their alternate timeline.

"Chapter 13": The big reveal.
The sitcom has certainly never lacked twists and turns, yet none could ever quite measure up to the massive shock in the Season 1 finale.
After Eleanor (Kristen Bell) realises the core four have been torturing each other all along, they discover that they're not in The Good Place at all, and Michael (Ted Danson) is actually a demon who has orchestrated the entire thing.

"Chapter 6": Michael is a Friends stan.
Whenever Michael makes references to life on earth, it's pretty much guaranteed to be hilarious. However, there was something particularly endearing about his obsession with Friends.
"I feel like Friends in Season 8. Out of ideas and forcing Joey and Rachel together, even though it made no sense," he says, while helplessly laying on the floor.
It's so pure.
"Chapter 7": Janet impersonates a human crying.
It was a mesmerising performance by D'Arcy Carden.
That's all.

"Chapter 16": Jason guesses they're in The Bad Place.
If you need a quick reminder: S2 Episode 2 flashed through all the times Michael tried to reboot the squad's memories. Except, it wasn't exactly working, because they kept realising they weren't in The Good Place.
When even Jason (Manny Jacinto) figures it out, Michael realises he's reached rock bottom.

"Chapter 27": Michael’s Australian accent.
When the group headed down under in Season 3, there were a lot of bad Aussie accents. In fact, there were quite a few things that weren't entirely representative of Australia.
While Ted Danson definitely gave it a good crack, Michael's accent wasn't totally on point. Despite that, it was still absolutely hysterical.

"Chapter 49": Judge Jen provides the sass.
There is never a dull moment when Judge Jen (Maya Rudolph) is around. She's undoubtedly a scene-stealer, and she gave one of her best performances in S4 Episode 10.
Between hitting on Chidi, using trendy terminology and crushing on Timothy Olyphant, Judge Jen was simply delightful.

"Chapter 39": Chidi and Eleanor watch their forgotten memories.
While the afterlife-set series is known for being super funny, it's also incredibly touching, and watching Chidi and Eleanor's relationship develop throughout the course of the show has been one of the most engaging storylines.
The pair have continued to find each other no matter what, and that's why witnessing their relationship unfold before Chidi got his memory wiped again was so damn tear-jerking.
Remember: Don't cry because it's over. Smile, because it happened.
You can stream all four seasons of The Good Place on Aussie Netflix.
