Queensland Has (Finally) Outright Banned ‘Wicked Camper’ Vans

Chances are you’ve had the (mis)fortune of seeing one of these vans roaming around the streets before.
Well, they’ll be a thing of the past now. At least if you’re in Queensland.
Last night, Queensland State Parliament finally followed through with their decision to pass an amendment bill that allows the Department of Transport to cancel registration of any vehicle displaying offensive advertising.
What does offensive advertising actually entail? Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey defined it as “advertising that uses obscene language, that is degrading, that deals inappropriately with sex or violence or very importantly that discriminates against or vilifies any section of the community.”
Wicked Campers were the subject of a slate of complaints, specifically over the slogans it used to decorate its vans. They were often perverse, or typical of what some folk might term locker-room humour.

Phrases like: “Nice legs, when do they open?” were sprayed on the sides of vans. (Yikes…)
Despite the legal ruling, it’s pretty likely Wicked will simply relocate to NSW. One registered there, its vehicles (despite grossness) will pretty much be untouchable.
Who knows? Maybe NSW will follow suit though.
Hooray for the domino effect?
