President Obama Spent July 4 Spitting Fire With Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monáe; How Was Your Weekend?

There’s no real reason for Aussies to celebrate America’s Independence Day holiday, but there’s also no reason for us to shield our eyes from the parties.

Whether it’s Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s squad mugging for the camera at their beach shindig, or President Obama inviting Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monáe to his Fourth of July BBQ, Independence Day has more to offer Australians than just Jeff Goldblum.

Of course, Obama’s BBQ was undeniably the party to be at. Held for members of the military and their families, the cook-out featured kid-friendly live performances by Lamar (from “Swimming Pool (Drank)” to “Alright”) and Monáe (who threw in a cover of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”).

You can watch Kendrick’s full performance below:

Even Obama had a crack at the mic, singing “Happy Birthday” to his daughter Malia, who just turned 18.

Obama and Lamar have become fast friends, after meeting at the White House earlier this year. Barack also sided with Kendrick in his simmering beef with Drake, and named “How Much A Dollar Cost” his favourite song of 2015.

Unfortunately, Monáe's set is not yet online, but you can see her performance at the White House from 2014 (where Michelle Obama excitedly claps along).
