Podcasts Are Coming to Facebook Next Week

Facepod or Podface?

Okay, so maybe Facebook aren’t going to call their venture into podcasting Facepod or Podface but the fact remains that on 22 June, Facebook are rolling out their own podcast feature.

Apparently, the social media giant recently sent emails to podcast page owners detailing how they can link their show’s RSS feed up to Facebook so episodes can be published on their page and appear in the news feed.

“Facebook will be the place where people can enjoy, discuss and share the podcasts they love with each other,” Facebook said in the email.

“To help them find your work, we can add a new tab to your Page that will feature your podcasts.”

It’s great to see Facebook are adding a tab ‘cos last thing I wanna do is scroll through a news feed looking for a particular episode.

Joining the podcasting will be ‘clips’. Like Twitch, this allows podcasters to ‘clip’ up to one minute of audio from the podcast to share, which Facebook say will help to increase engagement and visibility.

Audio is hot on Facebook’s radar at the moment, with Mark Zuckerberg this week hosting the first Live Audio Room in their attempt to rival Clubhouse. On top of that, Facebook in April revealed their plans for a new feature called Soundbites which is designed for users to share short-form audio clips to their friends and followers.

With apps continuing to vie for people’s attention, it seems Facebook are going for a shotgun blast strategy where they’ll do a little bit of everything for everyone to keep users on the app and staying relevant with Gen Z.
