Real News: Pikachu and Hello Kitty Are Now Japanese Ambassadors

And they so deserve it.
The Japanese Foreign Minister, Tarō Kōno, has announced that both Pikachu and Hello Kitty will represent the city of Osaka as cultural ambassadors.

The decision comes as Japan is bidding to host the 2025 World Expo, which brings world leaders together to discuss "finding solutions to universal challenges of our time".
France, Russia, Azerbaijan and Japan are in the running but Japan might have pulled it off with this savvy (and adorable) publicity stunt.
Despite Pikachu and Hello Kitty not actually being real (sorry, I had to), many people are praising the decision.
wise decision, sir
