Pauline Hanson Is Getting Roasted for Taking Aim at Children With Disabilities

This may shock you, but Pauline Hanson is at it again.

The One Nation senator is in the middle of another maelstrom of her own making, following her call last night to remove children with disabilities from mainstream classrooms.

According to the ABC, the Queensland senator made her comments during the debate on the Federal Government’s school funding legislation (nicknamed Gonski 2.0.).

She said that children with disabilities “have a right to an education, by all means”, but that they should “go in a special classroom” to lessen the strain on teachers and other students.

"Most of the time the teacher spends so much time on them they forget about the child who is straining at the bit and wants to go ahead in leaps and bounds in their education,” she said.

"It is no good saying that we have to allow these kids to feel good about themselves and that we do not want to upset them and make them feel hurt,” she added.

Needless to say, politicians across the board had feelings about Hanson’s statements.

Social Services Minister Christian Porter called the comments “archaic” and “unhelpful”, while Labor MP Emma Husar, whose 10-year-old son has autism, said Senator Hanson owed “an apology to every single autistic child in this country [and] every one of the parents who are like me, because we got better things to do than to defend our kids.”

Disability advocates also said there was no evidence or data to defend Senator Hanson’s suggestion that children with disabilities were harming the progress of other students.
