Our Top Picks for Who Killed Bryce Walker in “13 Reasons Why”

In the first season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, we were asked, who killed Hannah Baker? Of course, the answer to that question was somewhat complicated. The trailers for the show’s third season asks a similar question: Who killed Bryce Walker? Except this time, it seems like the answer might be slightly more straightforward.

The final trailer has given us some more clues as to who might have done it.

While Bryce’s murder might have initially come as a shock, it isn’t entirely surprising. Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) did some incredibly disturbing things, including raping Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe) and Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) in Season 1, and his girlfriend Chloe Rice in Season 2.

Honestly, any one of the characters in the show could be a suspect. However, some are more suspicious than others.

In no particular order, let’s take a look at who could have murdered Liberty High’s bad boy. And no, we don’t think Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) did it (although we are happy to be proven wrong).

Olivia Baker

Olivia Baker (Kate Walsh) would definitely have a motive here. After all, Bryce raped her daughter, who consequently took her own life. As @sammynrule points out, Mrs Baker actually said she wanted Bryce dead.

At the end of season two, Olivia decided to leave Crestmont and move to New York City, fulfilling Hannah’s dreams. While the theory is definitely strong, no one has been able to confirm or deny whether Kate Walsh will be returning for the upcoming season. She isn’t listed to star in any of the Season 3 episodes on IMDb, so it seems like this one might just remain a theory.

Bryce’s mother

Could a mother really kill her own son? Possibly. But Netflix tweeted this theory, so there goes that idea.  

Chloe Rice or Zach Dempsey

This brings us to our third suspect, Chloe Rice (Anne Winters). In Season 2, it is revealed that Bryce had raped her when she was unconscious. Later on, she tells Jessica that she is pregnant with Bryce’s child. Did Chloe want to get back at her perpetrator?

Furthermore, fans have speculated that Zach Dempsey (Ross Butler) might actually be the baby’s father, after the two characters were seen sitting together in the initial trailer for Season 3. Did Bryce find out, so Chloe killed him out of fear? Or did Zach?

So. Many. Questions.

Montgomery de la Cruz

After that brutal scene in the Season 2 finale, we really think Montgomery (Timothy Granaderos) is capable of anything. Plus, he’s looking really creepy in the trailer.

Plot twist… Bryce killed himself?

Considering the premise of 13 Reasons Why, it is entirely possible that Bryce killed himself and the characters all simply believe he was murdered. Throughout the show, Bryce’s family has valued power and appearance, so is it that far-fetched to suggest his parents covered it up somehow?
