One School Discouraged Kids Dressing As Internet Stars Because It's Too Ambitious

Should we discourage kids from having unrealistic dream careers?

A note was distributed around a primary school in southern England banning their students from dressing up as YouTube stars, pop singers and sportspeople for their career day, "My World of Work Day". The note deemed these professions as "great ambitions but so hard to achieve".

The note instead encouraged children to dress for regular, or "Plan B", jobs, which I guess is supposed to be anything other than those three options (and would include rocket scientists, brain surgeons and mathematicians).

It raised an argument on Twitter over whether it's fine to let children aim high when they're not actually going to be joining the workforce for at least a decade.

Imagine being the person who wrote this letter and then having multiple students you taught grow to achieve the very things you said not to bother with. Imagine.

What do you think? Did dressing as a doctor or an astronaut affect your expectations of your career? Or was it more of a fun dress-up day with little implications?
