Oh, Great: North Korea Bans Sarcasm

North Korea’s dear leader Kim Jong-un, suspicious that his people are only agreeing with him ironically, has banned sarcasm.

As the Independent reports, the move is meant to curtail local critics who are trying to flaunt strict state censorship by sarcastically celebrating Kim Jong-un.

According to Asian media, the popular, sarky phrase “this is all America’s fault” (which sounds a little like the North Korean version of the ironic “Thanks, Obama” meme) now constitutes unacceptable criticism.

The directive was delivered to residents by functionaries in a series of mass meetings held across the country.

It follows increasing vocal dissent among North Koreans (who have demonstrated with anti-government graffiti of late).

In other, even more chilling news, North Korea apparently conducted a nuclear weapons test today; it’s their fifth since 2006.

Yep, no reason to be worried at all.
