NZ Continues to Be Cooler Sibling to Aus With New Guinea Pig Police Officer

New Zealand police are trying out a new tactic to curb drivers’ speeds on the road.

That new tactic is small, furry and can hit a top speed of 9km/hr.

Constable Elliot is a guinea pig and was debuted on Facebook in his best blues as the latest addition to the Wellington Police Force.

In a video uploaded by NZ Herald, he can be seen on the corner of a busy street reminding drivers to slow down as well as munching on one of his favourite snacks: grass.

It is unknown, at this stage, if Constable Elliot will become a permanent member of the force, but he has already been unofficially titled with the cutest constable in the country.

Some comments on the Facebook post questioned whether this was animal abuse, but a spokeperson responded on social media.

"According to his human 'mum' he's pampered and loves going on trips to explore new food supplies, which is what he was doing yesterday," they said.

"He loves being patted and carried and can spend a while being cuddled on laps.

"We take care of our animals, don't you worry."
