NSW Police Are Being Trained To Immediately Shoot Armed Attackers And Extremists

The NSW Police Force have begun FBI-style training to shoot armed attackers and extremists on sight.

The measure - a shift away from their current “contain and negotiate” process - is believed to be a response to 2014’s Lindt Café siege and the recent shooting in Parramatta, as well as preparation for any potential terrorist attacks in Sydney

Acting Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas confirmed the move to the Daily Telegraph, noting that the “active armed offender training”, based on American strategies, kicked off three weeks ago.

“Experience in most hostage or siege situations has shown the longer you talk the more likely it is to be resolved peacefully,” he explained.

“The ground has shifted. We have to change our approach and it’s happening around the western world ... after Mumbai (terror attacks).

“We recognised ‘contain and negotiate’ will probably result in more lives being lost.”

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has welcomed the shift in NSW police strategy.

"I believe that Australian law enforcement authorities need all of the powers that they can to ensure that Australians can be kept safe," she said.

Though the strategy is being called a ‘shoot first’ policy, NSW police confirmed to Pedestrian.TV that it’s not quite the case.

"We don't have a 'shoot first' policy. NSW police are in the process of going through 'active shooter' training so that we can eliminate the threat of lone gunman / Paris-like massacres if necessary," they said in a statement.

"Almost every Western police force in the world receives similar training. In saying that, if there is someone with an assault rifle mowing down citizens, then we would 'shoot first'."
