Apple Is Apparently Coming For Our MacBook Headphone Ports Too

First they came for our optical drives, and we said nothing. Next they came for our headphone ports…

It’s been a busy few days for Apple. Not only did they drop iOS 10 earlier in the week, but today, their long-awaited iPhone 7 and 7 Plus went on sale in stores.

And yet, the wheels still continue to turn for the tech giant, who have reportedly sent out surveys to users in recent weeks asking: “Do you ever use the headphone port on your MacBook Pro with Retina display?”

MacRumours have a screenshot of the survey, which includes other port-related questions, such as: "How do you upload photos from a digital camera or phone to your MacBook Pro with Retina Display?"

The implication of these questions, obviously, is that Apple is thinking of jettisoning the headphone and SD card ports on MacBook Pros, just as they eradicated the headphone jack from the iPhone 7s.

Now, you need not worry in the short term, as designs for the MacBook Pro set for release later this year have already been leaked and it still has those slots in question.

But as Apple looks to continue streamlining their machines – and with their introduction of wireless AirPods alongside the iPhone 7 – you can be certain they’re looking to end their reliance on wires entirely sometime in the near future.

  • i really hope they don't get rid of those ports, I'm not spending $200 just for a pair of earphones just so apple can make more money. It's insane and really inconvenient...

  • :(

  • Nooo, not everyone likes cordless headphones. Some people actually need headphones for music purposes.

  • Uh oh

  • Might as well get rid of the screen too if that's what they call 'the future.'

  • Yeh right

  • Appl e jusy keeps creating more and more advancements but what we really need is stabilization.

  • If they really wanted to help, give us wireless charging instead!
