Not-Creepy Study Finds Teen Blood Rejuvenates Mice; Could Be Used To Fight Old Age In Humans

Scientists and definitely not vampires have discovered that the delicious blood of teenagers can rejuvenate old mice.

California-based company Alkahest has been battling “old age” and is looking for ways to reverse such ailments as Alzheimer’s disease.

According to New Scientist, their most recent method involved feeding elderly mice the blood plasma of 18-year-olds (who, we’re assuming, donated blood in a completely above board manner).

The mice are 12 months old; the equivalent of a 50-year-old human, apparently.

Turns out the results were promising. The memory, cognition and physical activity of the mice improved once they’d been injected with that sweet, sweet teen blood.

It’s not the blood, specifically, but the plasma (the liquid bit) that yields the best results.

After three weeks of their bloody diet, the old mice “ran around an open space like young mice.”

Alkahest’s Sakura Minami says she’s not ready to reveal which factors in young blood are responsible for rejuvenation, but she’s planning on translating these findings into an anti-ageing treatment for non-mice (aka, humans).

In fact, they’re already trialing injections of teenage blood plasma in people with Alzheimer’s disease.

So, get ready to basically become like Mad Max in Fury Road, young bloods.
