Nintendo is Coming Out with a New Switch Console in 2025

Did someone say 24 player Mario Kart?

Nintendo has just announced the release of the new Nintendo Switch console – the Nintendo Switch 2. All the new physical features of this console (excluding the CPU/GPU, battery life, RAM and storage) can be seen in the trailer that was released a few days ago.

The biggest changes are the increase in screen size and controllers, as well as the back support of the console being able to be laid out flatter when playing. Plus, the Joy-Cons now attach magnetically and feature a more subtle blue and red ring around them.

What games will be available?

There’s a only a bit of news about games that are going to be released so. These include: A new mainline Mario Kart called Mario Kart World, Yooka-Replayee - a remake of 2017 3D platformer Yooka-Layle, a cute action adventure game called Littlelands, a turn-based RPG called Bestiario, an action RPG called Synth Beasts, Aurascope – an action adventure platformer with light puzzle and RPG elements and My Time at Evershine, an adorable sandbox simulation game.

When is the Switch 2 set to come out in Australia?

There’s gonna be some Switch 2 specific titles and some games already out on the Switch will still be playable on the Switch 2, however there is a disclaimer that some games may not be supported.  We know the Switch 2 is dropping this year with more info on it set to come out on April 2.

What are some of the new features?

Nintendo will release its Switch 2 games platform in Australia on June 5. The cost for this new console is $700, which is a fair bit more expensive than the original Switch.

The Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen that displays in Full HD, with HDR colour, and can run at up to 120Hz for smooth gameplay. The system comes with a grip to transform the pair of magnetic controllers into a standard gamepad, and a TV dock that can output in 4K with an integrated fan to maintain performance.

The console will also work with a USB-C camera, for use in games or with the new chat feature. You can chat with up to four players over the internet with a camera or 12 with voice only mode using the Switch 2's built-in mic.

Another new feature allows the Joy-Con 2 controllers to be dragged around on a surface to act like computer mice. Plus, the internal storage of the system has been increased to 256GB, meaning more games can be stored before an SD card is required.

The deets on the new Mario Kart game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer confirmed 24-player races for the new Mario Kart by showcasing a racecourse with 24 starting spots. No more waiting for a turn to play a race. Good luck to anyone trying to play 200cc on Rainbow Road with 23 other players. With the announcement of the new Mario Kart World, you can play all new tracks, race with new cars and compete against more people than ever before.

This would be a first for the Mario Kart franchise and it would have a big significance on the design of all the tracks in game.
