New Year’s Resolutions: Should You Bother?

New Year's resolutions... We are all guilty of making at least one at some point and never "getting around to it" or just happening to "forget about it". In all honesty, how many people out there actually have stuck to their resolutions? Yep, no-one. So, what's the point in making one to begin with?
Every New Year's I make a resolution to myself, whether it is to exercise more often (yeah... that's not going to happen, let's face it) or maybe it's to break my coffee addiction and drink the liquid gold less (now that's definitely NOT going to happen). Every year, it begins well, for probably around a week, then things come up, I get lazy or things get stressful and I just really need my coffee. I'm sure many of you can relate to me here. We are all in the same boat; making resolutions but never sticking to them.
But perhaps this New Year's Resolution may be different. What if we all had the will power and motivation to stick to them? Wouldn't the world be different, different because of us?
Therefore, I propose that we do not make impossible resolutions that we know we are going to give up on, but we make our New Year's Resolution something that will benefit others.
For example, what if we all made it our resolution to simply smile at a stranger or give someone a compliment everyday? Wouldn't this world be a better place for us to live? And these things definitely aren't as ridiculous and unreasonably impossible to keep up. I believe we can do it, we can make our resolutions that tiny bit easier, and with this small change, we might even be able to make our world that little bit better and make ourselves feel better in the meantime.
So, yes. You should bother to make a New Year's Resolution. I mean, what harm is going to come to you from smiling at a stranger everyday.
