What’s the Deal With “Nepotism Babies” In Hollywood?

From Maya Hawke to Lily-Rose Depp, celebrities discuss nepotism.
In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, Lily-Rose Depp, child of critically acclaimed actor Johnny Depp and French singer Vanessa Paradis, stated she has a serious issue with being labelled as a ‘nepo baby’.

A nepotism baby is a term for a child born to a celebrity couple. This works to favor the child, or children, and the benefits are endless.
From business connections to industry head starts from birth, these nepotism babies are known for having opportunities falling into their laps from before they can walk.
Recently we have seen up-and-coming nepotism baby actresses, Maya Hawke and Maude Apatow, make statements on the matter—and now Lily-Rose Depp has joined the lot.

When Elle interviewer asked Depp if she had heard of the “nepo baby” dialogue, she responded with a dry laugh and said, “I’m familiar”.
Depp commented, “The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”

Depp went on to question why conversations regarding nepotism babies seem solely focused on women.
While the internet is more focused on female nepo babies like Kaia Gerber, Hailey Bieber, and Dakota Johnson, we cannot forget the others like Ben Stiller, Jaden Smith and Scott Eastwood.
Nepotism babies have been given their fair share of advantages. For Lily-Rose, this looked like appearing in her first film Tusk at the age of 15 and being cast in her first Chanel campaign at the age of 16.
Depp went on to give an analogy about how she doesn’t see a difference between her situation and doctors who encourage their children to go into the medical field.
And the internet has responded.
The internet debate is never-ending on who deserves their success, and who was given it as a birth right.
