NASA Director Politely Shuts Down One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts’ Claims Of Climate Data Manipulation

The Director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) has personally written Senator Malcolm Roberts a letter about his vocal climate data skepticism.
In his first speech to the Senate, One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts declared there is “no evidence” to suggest that humans are causing climate change. His skepticism became pretty strikingly apparent when he made an appearance on ABC’s Q&A program, claiming that NASA is manipulating climate science data.
NASA’s GISS director Gavin Schmidt has responded to Mr Roberts in a firm but polite letter. The letter, originally obtained by Fairfax Media, contains a number of NASA website links to their raw, published data.
Mr Schmidt writes, “You appear to hold a number of misconceptions which I am happy to clarify at this time.” The NASA climate scientist goes on to debunk several of Senator Roberts’ claims.
“The claim that GISS has ‘removed the 1940s warmth’ in the Arctic is not correct,” he writes. Explaining that temperature records were homogenised because it was a “necessary task to ensure that non-climatic influences in the analysis are minimised as much as possible”.
The letter concludes with a recommendation that Senator Roberts should perform his own analysis, if he has any remaining questions.
“Finally, might I suggest that you avail yourself to the resources provided by the Bureau of Meteorology or CSIRO in Australia for further details on this topic,” it reads.
Senator Roberts has responded to the letter on Twitter, saying that he'd rather rely on empirical evidence than "climate activists" such as Mr Schmidt.
As they say: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
