Move Over, Paul the Octopus: 'Psychic Cat' Has Gotten the First World Cup Prediction Correct

Achilles' first prediction was, shockingly, correct.

During this year's FIFA World Cup in Russia, there's a new furry predictor on the block and he's already got a purrfect record.

Achilles, a deaf, white and apparently clairvoyant cat who resides at Saint Peterburg's State Hermitage Museum, has been put in charge of accurately guessing the winners of the 2018 World Cup. The first match was between Russia (the host nation) and Saudi Arabia, and Achilles, to the complete shock of maybe zero people, chose Russia to win. He guessed right.

Putting aside the fact a hosting nation has never lost the first match of the tournament in history, this kitty's definitely got a special talent.

But, to be fair, Achilles' resume is not one of a complete phoney. During the Confederations Cup, Achilles was in charge of choosing who he thought would win and he only failed once.

Achilles is not the first animal to help mere humans predict the outcome of one of the world's largest sporting events.

From 2008 to just before his death in 2010, Paul the octopus was at the helm, using his mysterious powers to figure out who all the winners would be. He, too, was freakishly accurate.

Watch poor Achilles nervously choose Russia below.
