Reports Show Young Women Are Super Stressed About Their Future Careers

There’s definitely some career fears.

Monash University has released a key report that shows young women are really stressed about their career direction.

To mark International Youth Day, Monash University has released a report: Young Women Choosing Careers: Who Decides?

The report has shown some pretty serious concerns, so we headed to a local uni to see how female students felt about their education and future careers.

The report showed young women have a lot of uncertainty in approaching their careers.

  • One third of young women were highly stressed about choosing a career and felt ‘unemployable’.
  • 20% of young women were overwhelmed by information and choices.
  • 40% said they had no direction.
  • Nearly two in five said they were worried about ever getting a career.
  • Nearly 40% said they felt their studies wouldn’t lead to a ‘real’ career.

The report’s writers said the results show educators need to work to address young women’s concerns and to “provide opportunities to understand the world post-schooling” to give them a clear view of their post-university life.

The young women we spoke to had some concerns, but many felt good about heading into the working world.
