The ‘Write’ Stuff: Meet Student Edge’s New Contributors

The hunt has ended.
In March, we embarked on an epic quest to find some new voices for the Mag from within the Student Edge community. This metaphorical treasure-hunt was just like Raiders of the Lost Ark, except the prized loot here was just 'plain good writing' and there were fewer melted faces at the end of it.
From the many hundreds of impressive applications, we’re happy to reveal the five successful contributors who’ll begin commenting on everything from pop culture to politics over the next six months.
Let Blake, Caitlin, Cassie, Emily and Sarah introduce themselves in their own words.
Blake Riley
"My name’s Blake Riley and I'm a student living it up in Melbourne studying Law and Arts, specialising in professional writing. I'm originally from Western Sydney, New South Wales. I love both major football codes, supporting both the red and white teams. I love comics and all things superheroic, as well as Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, Pretty Little Liars and just about anything I can stream on Netflix. I’m a mixed martial artist as well as an archer, and when I'm not writing or dedicating my life to university I enjoy partaking in these activities to keep my mind and body focused."
Caitlin Moore

"Caitlin is an 18-year-old uni student who has no idea how to capture herself in 100 words. When asking her friends what to write, one of them suggested saying she has an affinity for strongly brewed coffee and nerds on the Internet. The others were no help at all. Caitlin has lived in four countries, visited a handful more, and currently volunteers with a youth-run organisation. She likes cats, beaches, music, curling up with a good book whenever there’s a thunderstorm, and believing she can take care of plants. She is also left-handed."
Cassie Ngurah

"Raised between the rice paddies of Petang, Bali and the suburbs of South-West Sydney, I’m a cultural fusion with a love of languages and travel. Inspired by YouTuber Louis Cole, I like to live my life to the fullest and will often embark on crazy adventures, some of which have led me to do things such as trek the Indonesian jungle and eat fried creepy crawlies in South Korea. I live a life fueled by well-made coffee, chili and Dominican music. I’m currently studying Spanish and plan to study in Peru or Costa Rica in the future."
Emily Lam

"Hi! I’m Emily and I’m a first year university student studying Commerce/Arts. I enjoy watching and reviewing TV shows, as well as spending time with friends. My current goal is to embrace new experiences and not let myself be daunted by the future. I’m strong-minded and opinionated, and writing has become a really important outlet for me to express myself in a way which I can’t verbally. I hope you will enjoy reading my opinions on various topics in the coming months!"
Sarah Bellis

"My name is Sarah Bellis, and I was born and raised in Perth, Australia. I am a well-travelled 18-year-old, having visited New Zealand, Singapore, Egypt and Japan, as well as the outline of Australia. I'm in my second year of University, where I'm studying professional writing and publishing, and hope to become an editor at a publishing house. I love reading and inspiring quotes, anything Harry Potter, cheerleading, and working with kids through volunteering. After University I hope to travel to America and work in a summer camp for a few months, before returning to home soil."
I look forward to working with these four as their Editor and publishing their articles, reviews and opinion pieces for your enjoyment. From their initial submissions, I can tell that they have plenty of insights (and pithy asides) to share over the coming months.
Thanks again to everyone who sent in an application. Hopefully, you’ll follow in Blake, Caitlin, Cassie, Emily and Sarah's footsteps and reapply when we next go looking for Student Edge contributors.
In the meantime, get ready for some fun readin'.
