Matt LeBlanc Is Joining “Top Gear”, Because You Can Never Have Too Many Friends

If car lovers had to pick one former Friends star to join the cast of BBC’s Top Gear, most would probably say, “This is a dumb hypothetical.”

And yet, it is our new reality.

Matt LeBlanc – aka Joey – was yesterday revealed to be new co-host of the revamped Top Gear, replacing Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

Joey

LeBlanc will join Chris Evans (no, not that Chris Evans; the British one) and the Stig when the show returns later this year.

He is the first non-British host in the show’s 39-year history.

Though the appointment of LeBlanc is certainly a surprise, it’s not, say, as surprising as David Schwimmer getting the gig. (All respect to the Schwim. Ross was always my favourite.)

Ross

LeBlanc has spent the past five years working with the BBC (well, BBC Two) on his Golden Globe-winning sitcom Episodes. He also hosted a standalone ‘best-of’ episode called Top Gear: The Races and appeared on the regular Top Gear as a guest (twice).

The controversial ex-host Clarkson is yet to offer his thoughts on LeBlanc's hiring, as he was busy last night being pulled over by police.
